Multiple Uses For The Welcome Home

If you have been keeping up with the Texas Freedom Grounds movement then you have heard about the new project we have started taking on. We are reconstructing a 2,200 square foot house and turning it in to a place where people can come for opportunity. “The Welcome Home: a halfway house to freedom” is going to make it easier for people to transition in to our area much easier. Not only is it going to be used for people to transition but it’s going to be used to help the community be more independent.

We have started to design a monster kitchen and community room inside the house that is going to help expand the idea of freedom, people’s knowledge and independence. This older model house has walls blocking off the living room, dinning room, kitchen and office. We have come up with a plan to knock down some of the walls to open up the whole house, so you can see every room from the kitchen, which is positioned in the middle of it all. We are turning the walls to half walls for sitting areas with bar stools.

We will have an area to sit where people can learn while someone teaches classes such as, cooking, canning, or prepping food. The kitchen is going to be huge allowing us to have a community food preservation center for canning, dehydration, freeze dry, vacuum sealing and storing goods. With all the gardens in the area, a huge one at this house and all the fruit trees we have planted, this is going to be very worthy for this house and community. Furthermore, the kitchen is going to have plenty of counter space so multiple people can prepare food or cook. There will be two different sinks on each end of the kitchen for multiple uses. On top of that we will have tons of storage space, for produce ready to eat and things that are stored away for down the road use.

We are going to use the huge living room for a community center. Strategic planning, community gatherings, teaching classes for adults and home school classes for the kids. This room will serve multiple purposes for the people who live in this house and the community. With the variety of people who are here in this area it will be great to hold teaching classes for people to learn from one another. Electrician, cooking, gardening, livestock, welding, carpenter, gun safety classes and more! The opportunities are endless.

The office room will be opened up to the kitchen and turned in to an addition of the kitchen so people can sit and eat. It has a huge window that faces the front yard for an enjoyable view.

The dinning room will be opened up to the kitchen as well and we will use that area for people to sit, relax, and enjoy themselves. The huge window in that room faces the backyard for a wonderful view at the garden which will engulf the entire yard.

We have received many donations already by way of people coming to help with their hands, material donations, and even cash money. If you have the means of helping ,anything is much appreciated. We are in need of plywood, 2×4’s, 2×6’s, oven, stove, kitchen sink, and tile. Also, if you have anything else that you think we could use for the house, we are all ears. This is a house being put together by a community and others who are looking in and inspired by this idea. Ideas like this are bulletproof and will not be stopped. Please reach out to us if you can be of any help. Thank you so much from everyone here at Texas Freedom Grounds.
